The Community Writing Assistance Program\u2014the branch of the Writing Center that offers free help with writing of all kinds to local community members\u2014is expanding its services! In the next few months, thanks to a generous grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Division for Libraries, Technology and Community Learning, CWA will start offering instruction at two new locations: the Hawthorne Branch Library and the Meadowridge Branch Library (dates and times to be determined). Assistance at these branch libraries\u2014and at the central branch of the Madison Public Library, where drop-in appointments currently are available on Mondays from 1:00-4:00\u2014will focus on back-to-work writing: resumes, cover letters, and more. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, thanks to a grant from the Evjue Foundation, CWA instructors Michael Dimmick and Rob McAlear continue to help with all kinds of writing\u2014job-related, academic, personal, and practical\u2014at the bustling South Madison Branch Library on Monday evenings from 5:00-7:30 and on Saturday afternoons from 1:30-4:00. <\/p>\n

In other CWA news . . . In the fall CWA instructors Dave Stock, Rebecca Lorimer, and Beth Godbee offered a series of workshops at public libraries around the state, with topics ranging from resumes and cover letters to online job applications and professional web-based communication. Job-seekers at public libraries in Cross Plains, Monroe, New Glarus, Poynette, and Stevens Point found in CWA a helpful source of assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe help that Writing Center instructors offer across all our locations is important and appreciated, but the current economic climate lends our work at Madison’s public libraries especial urgency,\u201d says CWA instructor Sarah Harrison. \u201cWe are the only source of support for many of the job seekers that we meet, many of whom find themselves out of work unexpectedly. The CWA program extends UW resources to members of our local community, forging an important link between the university and the city. We work with a committed, engaging and diverse group of writers at the library who value the help we can provide with compiling resumes, writing cover letters, online job searches and more!\u201d<\/p>\n
