Another Word, the award-winning writing center blog from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is currently seeking proposals for blog posts to be published in 2027. We seek proposals from those invested in writing center studies on a broad range of topics related to administering, tutoring, training, and working in the writing center.
We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, publishing posts related to the intersection of writing center studies with any of these topics:
- accessibility, disability, and neurodiversity
- antiracism and social justice
- assessment and program improvement
- campus outreach, partnerships, and advocacy
- community-engaged writing centers
- digital, online, and multimodal consultations
- genAI and writing
- graduate student writers and graduate tutor development
- language diversity and multilingual writers
- LGBTQ+ inclusion and belonging
- community-engaged writing centers
- prison education and other nontraditional educational contexts
- resisting antisemitism or islamophobia
- tutor education and training
- wellbeing, emotional labor, and sustainability
- writing across the curriculum (WAC)
- writing center administration and leadership
We welcome proposals of approximately 200 words addressing the topic of the post and its relevance to the larger writing center community. Successful proposals will (1) connect to broader conversations in the field, (2) offer a unique or underrepresented perspective or focus, and (3) clearly fit within the blog genre and our public audience.
If accepted, we will request a blog post that is approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words in length. In addition to the written text of the post, we will also ask authors to provide visual components as well. For all accepted posts, the editorial team will be happy to provide feedback, guidance, and mentoring along the way, as needed.
Proposals are due Sunday, January 10, 2027. To submit your proposal, please fill out our Proposal Submission form. This form will collect author(s) name(s), email address(es), institutional affiliation, position(s) of author(s) within the institution, proposed title, proposal, publication date preferences, and current drafting process stage.
Notification of acceptance will be sent out in late January 2027. Publication of accepted posts will begin in the spring of 2027.
